SPEEDCAT INSTRUCTIONS
INTRODUCTION
The Speedcat is a performance watercraft designed for speed and stability. The instructions below provide safe set up, operation and maintenance.
SAFETY INFORMATION
-
Always wear appropriate safety gear when operating.
-
Only use the Speedcat in suitable water conditions.
-
Do not exceed the recommended pressures or load limits.
SET UP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FIRST BUILD
-
Note how the Speedcat has been folded as this is the best way to fold back up when putting away.
-
Unpack the Speedcat and inspect all components for any damage.
-
Roll out the Speedcat to reveal the transom. Find the short domed headed bolts that are supplied. These will be used to hold the transom cavitation plate and wheel brackets in place. Make sure the nuts are on the outside of the transom and engine backing plate so that the domed bolt is on the inside (this is to make sure there is no short or rubbing edges against the air deck floor). The long bolts that are in the beach wheel pack assembly are used for another model but can be used if needed. Put the silicon sealer provided around the bolts on first set up to ensure a good seal.
-
Inflate the bow tubes to approximately 0.5psi then the stern tubes to 0.5psi. Make sure the inflation valve is in the closed position before starting to inflate the tubes by pressing or twisting the valve centre pin to the up position or the air will release once the pump hose is removed.
-
Fit the air deck floor into the boat and tuck the side edges in under the tubes leaving the floor about 25mm (1”) away from the transom to allow space on inflation. Inflate the floor to 12psi.
-
Fit the seats if you want them and inflate the bow tubes to 2.5psi. Next inflate the stern tubes to 2.5.psi and finally inflate the speed tubes to 4psi. Secure the inflation valve covers. Assemble oars and fit into velcro straps.
-
Fit the beach wheels using the quick release pin with the wheels facing inwards (see photo) so they do not catch on the tubes. They can be set in the up or downward position by pulling the sprung bar up or down to release the position of the wheels. Never do this while the engine is in motion in the water.
-
Fit the engine in the centre of the transom and tighten the engine clamps and test the engine is fixed securely. Fit the fuel tank to the air deck using the straps provided (some small engines will have built in tanks) and connect the fuel line. See engine instructions for more information about engine set up and operation.
-
Feed the long rope through the D-ring on the outside of the bow tube, bring round the front of the boat over the deck and through the D-rings on the air deck then round the front to the D-ring on the other side of the tube, back through the air deck D-rings and tie off back where started. This makes a great grad handle for walking the boat down to the water.
-
If needed fill the water trim tank and fit by putting the rope through the D-rings on the tank and through the D-rings on the air deck. Alternatively use quick release carabiners (not supplied).
-
Wheel down into the water and raise wheels to secure before starting the engine.
-
OPERATION
-
Do not operate the Speedcat in adverse weather conditions. Avoid sudden manoeuvres or overloading.
-
Monitor tube pressure during extended use.
-
Check engine is securely fitted.
-
Always wear a buoyancy aides.
-
Abide by all bylaws in your area.
-
We recommend taking a Powerboat Level 2 course to enhance your boating knowledge and experience.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
-
After use rinse with fresh water and dry thoroughly. Flush engine with fresh water.
-
Remove the engine, fuel tank, oars, seats, water tank, ropes and wheels.
-
Deflate all tubes by depressing the valve centre pins to release the air before folding up. Remove air deck and fold separately.
-
If you have the beach wheel brackets attached put a cloth or foam extrusion (if provided) over the brackets before folding the boat up to prevent them rubbing on the folded tubes.
